Wonderful wonderful stay here! We could bring our pups and it's such a unique property. You will find nothing like it in the northwest! Imagine those Tahitian huts over the water without a 24 hour flight and jet lag. The views were breathtaking. We saw so much wildlife, it felt like we were staying at a zoo and aquarium. Seals, fish, blue heron, crabs and even a family of deer. The inside is a little dated but who cares! Don't listen to the one uptight review. She shoulda stayed at the 4 seasons. If you go into it with the right expectations you are fine. Sheryl was completely upfront and it worked so well for our group! It was glamping at its best!
If you are looking for an amazing setting, this house is for you. You can watch the seals with their babies swimming around you, eagles flying, beautiful sunrise's and sunsets all from the wrap around deck. The kids and adults had fun with the huge box of Legos, nice selection of VHS and some DVD's. The house is a little dated, but the outside more than makes up for it. Make sure you ask about WiFi if you will be needing that. He owners are very accommodating. We would definitely stay again. The local swimming hole is worth it at Lake Josephine. Small market is fine for forgotten items.
The deck and location of this house are really the selling points. It was lovely to sit on the deck - there are tables on either side so you can have sun or shade, and lounge chairs as well. We loved sitting out there for meals, hanging out, watching the seals and boats - fantastic. The inside of the house though is very, very dated and in need of significant renovation. The upstairs bedrooms are closets - one of them does not have a window and they are quite small. Worked fine for our 3 year old but I'm not sure who else would want to stay there, even in the bedroom with the double bed. The master downstairs is fine, although our issue was that everything had stains - the sheets, the duvet. While I'm sure they were clean, it wasn't very inviting. Our other issue is that there is a sliding glass door in the master, which is great as it keeps the house cool, but there is no screen door so if you want the door open, bugs fly in. The screen door that does exist, on the slider in the living room, had holes in the screen and was falling off the track. The kitchen and all the dishes/pots/kitchen tools are old but included most things we needed. The shower in the bathroom was extremely very tiny and the glass door and showerhead have definitely seen better days. Overall, we dealt with these things, but did not feel that the house was priced appropriately given its more "lived in" state. There are other houses on the island, with similar amenities but in much better shape that are priced the same as this house.
We took a late summer family vacation at this house and it was amazing. The views, the wildlife, the island... very relaxing and enjoyable. The weather enabled us to practically live on the deck. We had 4 adults and 3 kids with us. The kids enjoyed sleeping in the closet rooms. The adults not so much, but that's okay. It's not a modern accommodation by any means, but it's super cozy. The house is fully stocked with everything you might need and then some. We will go back for sure. The sunsets alone are worth it!!
The home is literally over the water; our kids fished right off the deck during high tide. During low tide, we walked a very quiet beach. And did I mention Eagle island right in front of the property with all sorts of wildlife including seals with young pups, cormorants, herons, etc. We sat out on the deck one night star gazing and were serenaded by a chorus of seals from the island - it was really funny! We ate on the deck with a beautiful view of the Olympics. The master bed is very comfortable. The upstairs has smaller rooms, but our kids loved it. The mega-box of Legos was a huge hit! The appliances and bathroom fixtures are a bit dated, but worked perfectly. There is a nice grill on the deck. It was very quiet, private, and the views were nothing short of amazing. We absolutely loved it here and are planning our return.
